How can I check if my assignment is linked?
Open the course in Canvas, then find and click the “AEFIS Tools” option in the left-hand menu:

This will open the AEFIS Assignments screen. On this screen, scroll until you find the assignment in question or use Control-F to search by the assignment name.
Once you find the assignment, look for the tag that indicates a linked assignment. In this case, we see the ‘COMM’ tag, meaning that this assignment is linked to the Communications institutional student learning outcome (ISLO):

That’s fantastic! Let’s dig a little deeper on this assignment linking. On the AEFIS screen, click the hamburger icon (three stacked horizontal lines) to open the left-hand menu. From here, find and click the “Assignment Linking” option. This will open the Assignment Linking menu:

From here, you can check the linked criteria, make modifications to the linking, or select a new assignment altogether.
How do I link my assignment?
Using the instructions provided above, navigate to the Assignment Linking screen for the course in question. Once there, scroll down the list of outcome options until you find the proper one, then click it.
For this example, we can see that no assignments are currently linked to this outcome. We’ll start by clicking the blue “Manage” button:

This will bring up a list of the assignments that are currently published in Canvas. Scroll down until you find the correct assignment, then check the box for that assignment:

If necessary, click the grey “Criteria” button to view and link rubric criteria. Once you have finished selecting your assignment and criteria, click the blue “Save Links” button.
My criteria are missing from my assignment in AEFIS!
If the SLO criteria are missing, check the rubric in Canvas. You can use rubric templates Word document to copy/paste the criteria into your existing rubric. Keep in mind that AEFIS requires a point value for rubric items, even if it’s .25 for each item (for total of one point). If no point value is assigned, the results will not transfer into AEFIS.
Step-by-step guides are available: If you are adding the criteria to an existing rubric, see the “ISLO – Integrating Existing Rubric” PDF for additional details. If you are creating a brand new rubric, see the “ISLO – New Rubric Setup” PDF.
What are the most common reasons why assignments don't link properly?
If you see a red error message, it probably means that the assignment name has changed in Canvas. Because Canvas does not have a unique identifier for AEFIS to match assignments, it matches by assignment name. As a result, Canvas assignment names must match the AEFIS assignment name exactly, or the linking will break.
Error messages will also be thrown if the assignment is unpublished or deleted, or if the assignment has no points associated with it. However, the most common issue is that the assignment name does not match.
