Embedded Email Links
Security Tip: Be cautious of embedded links in emails. Hackers often use these links to direct you to dangerous websites. Even if the link text looks legitimate and relevant, it could be part of a scam. Always hover over links to check the actual URL before clicking.
In our video, we used the pharmaceutical commercials as a model to offer tips on how to hover over links both in emails and on your phone. Also, remember these catchphrases:
- "You need to hover, to discover, the real destination of an email's link." This simple action can prevent you from falling victim to deceptive links designed to compromise your security.
- "Stop, Hover, Check-It." Taking a moment to verify can save you from potential cyber threats.
- "Check It before you wreck it." A quick hover can be the difference between safe browsing and a security breach.
Destroying Sensitive Information
In our video, Secret Agent Coop helps identify, remove, and destroy account and personal information left on people's desktops. While keeping information on post-it notes may seem handy, it can be easily gathered and used by hackers to breach our system security and endanger your identity.
Remember to:
- Destroy or Obfuscate Personal Information: Use a cross-cut shredder to destroy or use an identity theft protection roller stamp to sufficiently obfuscate personal protected information.
- Use Secure Passwords: Many successful phishing attacks worldwide result from people using the 20 most commonly used passwordsLinks to an external site..
- Create Strong Passwords: Use catchphrases to create longer, harder-to-guess passwords that are easy for you to remember.
