When you report phishing attempts, it provides us with an opportunity to educate our students and employees about the latest phishing tactics, how to recognize them, and the importance of cybersecurity awareness.
In our video, Full Nest, based on the popular 80s and 90s sitcom "Full House" on the imaginary LSSCTV network, our student, Liz, struggles with the consequences and steps needed to recover from a malware attack. The actors emphasize that it is always safe and beneficial to our college to quickly report issues.
Reporting phishing incidents allows the organization's IT or security team to investigate the attack, trace its source, and take appropriate action to prevent future attacks. Timely reporting of phishing attempts, such as suspicious emails or incidents, can significantly enhance an organization's overall cybersecurity posture to protect the security and integrity of the organization's digital assets and data.
- Protect Employee & Student Data: Employee and/or student information, such as payroll data, Social Security numbers, and personal details, may be targeted in phishing attacks. Reporting ensures that employee and student data remains secure and avoids potential identity theft.
- Prevent Data Breaches: Phishing attacks can be a precursor to data breaches. If an employee falls victim to a phishing scam, their credentials could be compromised, leading to unauthorized access to the company's systems. Early reporting can help prevent potential breaches.
- Strengthen Security Measures: If the college is aware of phishing attempts, it can enhance its security measures, such as implementing more robust email filtering, conducting security awareness training, or updating security policies.
