Changing BitLocker PIN

Changing your PIN

1) Click on the Start button and search BitLocker. Click the Manage BitLocker option from the search results.

2) Click on Change PIN.

3) Enter the Old PIN, enter a New PIN, Confirm the New PIN, and click Change PIN. Your PIN must contain 8-20 letters and numbers (at least one of each) but it does not need Uppercase letters. Do not use any special characters.

4) Click Close when done.

Creating a Recovery Key

After changing your PIN, Bitlocker creates a new recovery key. You will need this recovery key if anything goes with Bitlocker, which happens often. Without this key, you will be permanently locked out and will lose all your data.

1) Open the Start menu and search Manage BitLocker.

2) Click the Backup BitLocker option. There are options to save to USB, save to file, save to account, or print. Save the recovery key to a file and email or Teams chat the file to the IT staff.
